WhaleTail Lake Home
This new retirement home overlooks WhaleTail Lake in Rural Minnesota. The owners wanted a unique modern home evocative of the sweeping lake view setting. The home was sited on a hillside to capitalize on views & sunlight. The front is intentionally lower and more modest with the more dramatic central “sail” roof form extending through to the back & hinting at the dramatic lakeside form. The central glass entry opens to the large glass wall on the lakeside framing the views upon entry. The sail roof projects out the front and back providing shade and a covered entry while housing an open great room, entry, and stair below the interior vaulted ceiling. The lakeside cantilever projects out toward the lake allowing wrap around windows for the expansive views. The dark cube on the corner is the owner’s suite tilted to frame the ideal views and add interest to the form. The screened porch is perched off to the side so as not to block lake views from inside the house and to balance the exterior form. The house was made wheelchair accessible with zero step entries, an elevator, curbless showers, and large doorways. Construction is underway and more photos to come.
