Urban Retreat

The owners of this home were entering retirement and wanted to move back to the city to be closer to the vibrant cultural life in the area with its restaurants and entertainment. They purchased this lot to build a small affordable retirement home in a historic neighborhood of Minneapolis. They had an affinity for older homes and an appreciation of the historic character of the neighborhood. The home is a case study in creating a small home within a dense urban fabric that blends with the style and character of the surrounding homes. The home design is 1,781 sq.ft. with 3 bedrooms & 2 1/2 bathrooms. Keeping the footprint small with open spaces and large windows created bright and airy spaces with ample daylight that feel larger than the size would suggest. The home was a recipient of a Minneapolis Preservation Award.
